Brief description

Peruvian hake (Merluza gayi peruanus) is referred to family (Merlucciidae) and is very similar to European hake (Merluccius merluccius). However Peruvian hake is smaller than Pacific, Argentinian and European hakes and weighs 400-600 gr. In Peru and Ecuador Peruvian hake is important commercial fish with annual catch of approximately 30,000 tonnes. During summer in Southern hemisphere Peruvian hake migrates to shallow waters, while in winter it lives more to the north in much deeper waters.
